My previous post drew a suggestion to try switching to VDPAU. This was a GREAT 1st
step & allowed me to find that I was also having some sound card issues that were hanging
things.
Here's what I did in Myth FE:
- Setup - TV Settings - General - Playback (screen 3 of
, Change profile to VDPAU
- Setup - General - 4th screen (or so) select "Scan for Audio Devices", then select the Audio
Output Device that includes your sound card.

System's up & running. Now I just need to sit down & figure out what I need to change around on
my Ubuntu boxes so I can download the right Myth version that will let me access 0.24's 1264
schema my BE now uses . . .

Thank you!

From: stevespence@msn.com
To: mythtv-users@mythtv.org
Subject: Attempting to watch LiveTV Logs Me Out of Fedora 14
Date: Thu, 18 Nov 2010 02:17:43 -0600

I'd been running MythTV front & backends on a Fedora 12 box (as well as a Ubuntu remote frontend) for about a year. A few weeks ago, I tried upgrading to Fedora 13, but the installer wouldn't let me upgrade, so I did a clean install. I got Myth running again, but was having problems with my 2nd dvb tuner not getting a lock most of the time. After lots of Google/Experiment time, it looked like I was down to setting up a new database. Instead, I decided to try to a clean install of Fedora 14 on a clean partition.

I now have Fedora 14 (64-bit) running & went through the Myth setup process for Fedora as described on the MythTV web site. MySQL & Mythbackend both successfully autostart. I've tried adding & deleting my dvb tuners & inputs several times (the trick that usually fixes Myth problems for me), but my problem remains:

I start mythfrontend (doesn't matter whether I start it from the command line as a user or root, or graphically as a user)

I can go into the Guide & set up recordings (both channel scans with the dvbs & mythfilldatabase worked fine)

When I look in the recordings directory, I have viewable .mpg files

When I use mythfrontend, I can see recorded shows listed in Watch Recordings

If I try to watch a recording OR watch LiveTV, the show starts to pop up, then either:

- - Very quickly the screen darkens & I'm back at the GUI login screen. (This is the first time I've actually had a Linux program crash so hard it logs me out!), OR
- - Will play for a short period (1-2 minutes), then freezes & goes non-responsive

Nothing really catches my eye in the backend log & I never have figured out how to get the frontend to generate a log, so I started it from the cmd line & copied the output below. I'm much less familiar with frontend outputs, but all that caught my eye as a potential issue were sound problems

Right now, I'm out of ideas on how to fix this. My only ideas on where to go next would be a Myth uninstall, then reinstall & not do the upgrade to schema 1264. If that fails, uninstall, then try to track down a copy of 0.23 for install. Both of these seem pretty painful, so any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thank you,
Steve

Backend Details:
[steve@myf14 Documents]$ mythbackend --version
Please attach all output as a file in bug reports.
MythTV Version : Unknown
MythTV Branch : exported
Network Protocol : 63
Library API : 0.24.20101028-1
QT Version : 4.7.0
Options compiled in:
linux release using_alsa using_jack using_oss using_pulse using_pulseoutput using_backend using_bindings_perl using_bindings_python using_crystalhd using_dvb using_firewire using_frontend using_hdhomerun using_hdpvr using_iptv using_ivtv using_joystick_menu using_libfftw3 using_lirc using_mheg using_opengl_video using_opengl_vsync using_qtdbus using_qtwebkit using_v4l using_x11 using_xrandr using_xv using_xvmc using_xvmc_vld using_xvmcw using_bindings_perl using_bindings_python using_mythtranscode using_opengl using_vdpau using_ffmpeg_threads using_live using_mheg
