<div>The issues I was having (segfaults during playback and initiating playback) turned out to be a bad 8400GS card. I returned it and purchased a 9500GT and I'd never go back. I haven't had any VDPAU problems with my 9500GT card except for the OSD studder which is more of an annoyance. Could be that you are overheating, does yours have an active cooling device on it?</div>
