System:<br>
debian/etch, AMD CPU at 1.0GHz, 2GB RAM, GeForce 6200 with 256MB.<br>
100GB spare hard drive space. Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1600 (74021 F tuner).<br>
<br>
After getting the MythTV frontend and MySQL databases more-or-less started<br>
up, I turned to the mythtv-backend.<br>
<br>
I got this far:<br>
<a href="http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Hauppauge_HVR-1600" target="_blank">http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Hauppauge_HVR-1600</a><br>

Installation Guide<br>
<br>
0. You must stop the MythBackend from running or you will receive errors while installing these drivers.<br>
</blockquote>
<br>
None found running. OK<br>
<br>
<blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="border-left: 1px solid rgb(204, 204, 204); margin: 0pt 0pt 0pt 0.8ex; padding-left: 1ex;">
1. Install the latest v4l-dvb drivers<br>
First find your kernel version. Run uname -r and you should get something like this:<br>
uname -r<br>
<blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="border-left: 1px solid rgb(204, 204, 204); margin: 0pt 0pt 0pt 0.8ex; padding-left: 1ex;">
2.6.24-19-generic<br>
</blockquote></blockquote>
<br>
I have debian/etch: (2.6.18-5-k7)<br>
<br>
<blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="border-left: 1px solid rgb(204, 204, 204); margin: 0pt 0pt 0pt 0.8ex; padding-left: 1ex;">
1a. Download the latest<br>
sudo apt-get install mercurial linux-headers-$KERNEL_VERSION build-essential<br>
</blockquote>
<br>
I used this code:<br>
<blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="border-left: 1px solid rgb(204, 204, 204); margin: 0pt 0pt 0pt 0.8ex; padding-left: 1ex;">
sudo apt-get install mercurial linux-headers-2.6.18-5-k7 build-essential<br>
</blockquote>
<br>
<blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="border-left: 1px solid rgb(204, 204, 204); margin: 0pt 0pt 0pt 0.8ex; padding-left: 1ex;">
hg clone <a href="http://linuxtv.org/hg/v4l-dvb" target="_blank">http://linuxtv.org/hg/v4l-dvb</a><br>
</blockquote>
<br>
This worked OK:<br>
<blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="border-left: 1px solid rgb(204, 204, 204); margin: 0pt 0pt 0pt 0.8ex; padding-left: 1ex;">
added 10304 changesets with 26556 changes to 1695 files<br>
1226 files updated, 0 files merged, 0 files removed, 0 files unresolved<br>
</blockquote>
<br>
But when it comes to the next steps, I hit a brick wall:<br>
<blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="border-left: 1px solid rgb(204, 204, 204); margin: 0pt 0pt 0pt 0.8ex; padding-left: 1ex;">
1b. Compile and add the module to your kernel:<br>
cd v4l-dvb<br>
make<br>
sudo make install<br>
sudo make unload<br>
sudo modprobe cx18<br>
</blockquote>
<br>
The command, "cd v41-dvb" is a mystery. Not "change directory" for sure.<br>
Shorthand for something else ... ?<br>
Should I have done these steps as root ... ?<br>
There is no file name containing the characters, "v41-dvb."<br>
Should I look in the CDROM's that came with the tuner card ?</blockquote><div><br>cd = Change Directory<br><br>The "hg" command should have created a subfolder named "v4l-dvb" which is V4L-DVB (in lowercase). The instructions are telling you to change into that directory in order to compile the source code you downloaded with the "hg" command<br>
