I talked to the Best buy guy, he said suggested a few cards and said
they would work with any cable provider. But said they would only work
in Windows. Why does linux have all these different formats and
encryption? My friend has an apple and he just plugged the cable in
and it worked. I want a card just like that, but works in
Linux/MythTV. <br>

<div>You should be more concerned about how you are going to get the
video/audio signal from the cable provider before you are concerned
with a capture card. There are thousands of messages in the archives
about capturing television from cable. The card itself should be your
last decision. You should understand DVB, QAM, 5C encryption, capturing
video from a STB via analog, via firewire, if your cable box offers
anything useful from the firewire port (in which case you do not need a
capture card at all), how you plan on changing channels on the STB you
have, etc. You also need to consider your end use. A large LCD or
Plasma Display? Laptop computer screen? Standard definition TV?
Streaming over the web? Handheld video device?</div>
