i had the same problem on a ibm pc with a ATI card i had,  that
used the  radeon xorg  driver . The problem occurred 
when i upgraded it from mandriva LE2005 to mandriva 2006.<br>
The change from xorg 6.8 to 6.9 did something bad for me, so i downgraded back to LE2005.<br>
