Are you using an nvidia card for tvout?<br>
I had a problem once with Nvidia TVout and Mythtv. Live TV crashes as well as xawtv.<br>
<br>
I finally figured that setting :<br>
<br>
Option "RenderAccel" "false"<br>
<br>
in /etc/X11/XF86Config restored my live tv.<br>

I tried to use other application such as tvtime , As a result, there is
problem as same as MythTV, Is my capture card broken? I do not
