Just to pipe in here. I have been fighting this same issue since I 
upgraded Myth to 0.20. I think it was ok in 0.19 The best fix I found so 
far was to disable the fade feature in the OSD for the theme I use. This 
reduces it to one small stutter as the pop-up goes away. Makes it 
tolerable. Now if you manage to find the source, I would be eternally 
grateful.
