Yeah, after doing some more research I think that was a mistake.
The original font was Trebuchet and I knew the Liberation fonts
had the same font metrics as the Microsoft fonts starting with the
same letter so I chose Thorndale as the replacement. But according
to http://www.microsoft.com/typography/links/News.aspx?NID=1368
Thorndale is a replacement for Times New Roman, another font
starting with "T". Albany might be a better replacement, it has
the openness of Trebuchet with the font metrics of Arial. But
both Arial and Albany's bold characters are a heavier than the ones
in Trebuchet, so neither is 100% equivalent. A few websites say
Garuda is a Linux equivalent, but to my eyes they look nothing
alike and it appears to be badly hinted for intermediate sizes.

Is Arial a no-no from a font standpoint? Are we basically looking for free alternatives (which I certainly understand). At least your change prompted me to upgrade to the latest SVN so I'll probably take some time soon and work more on getting some of the other screens updated (proglist mostly IIRC). The wide button was a huge fix and I appreciate the work you did to fix that. The schedule editor was excessively difficult to use before.
