VDR isn't doing much more than piping mplayer onto the output of *zap
(tzap, czap, szap) AFAIK - they don't actually start bufferring til
you press pause IIRC.  That's probably how their channel change time
is so quick.

As for commercial STBs - talk to Virgin Media about their 5 sec +
channel change times :(  Remember that's _without_ any fancy PVR stuff
going on!
